電影《在旅途中：方濟各的朝聖之旅》展現了教宗旅行世界各地、令人欽佩的作為：在巴西，他呼籲世人團結；在古巴，他鼓舞年輕人追尋夢想。
在美國，他直指軍火販賣問題嚴重，並首度深痛檢討神父性侵未成年事件。
在智利、在墨西哥，他呼籲要讓受刑人擁有尊嚴。
在肯亞，他急欲解決貧窮問題；更為兒童的教育與權益，走訪加拿大和馬達加斯加…。

【電影簡介】奧斯卡導演拍教宗方濟各《在旅途中》造訪53國繞著地球跑描述教宗方濟各（PopeFrancis）任職9年間、出行37次、造訪53國「繞著地球跑」的紀錄電影《在旅途中：方濟各的朝聖之旅》（InViaggio：TheTravelsofPopeFrancis），是曾獲奧斯卡提名的義大利導演吉安弗蘭科羅西（GianfrancoRosi）的最新力作，也是他繼勇奪柏林金熊獎的《海上焰火》（FireatSea）和《戰地夜曲》（Notturno）又一力作。
羅西這次將教宗於2013－2021年間，超過600小時參訪影片剪輯精華，以及他近距離觀察教宗、拍攝而得的影像，在時事與歷史之間，建立一種獨有且感人的對話。
不僅獲選威尼斯影展，更獲國際影媒【TheFilmStage】讚賞「深入梵蒂岡現今截然不同的轉變」，稱之為「偉大的藝術傑作！

他是在2021年某天，接到梵蒂岡官媒【羅馬觀察報】（L'OsservatoreRomano）記者來電，邀請他與教宗一道出訪伊拉克。
在路上，他隨口問「究竟教宗上任後出訪過多少次？」答案「過去9年就有37次」簡直讓他驚呆，於是決定拍攝這部關於教宗「繞著地球跑」的旅行電影。
奧斯卡導演來拍教宗，經過持續一年的旅行跟拍，羅西充分感受到「十字架的謙卑」，不是教徒的他竟意外十分感動，並將教宗的仁慈比擬「聖雄甘地」。
